BaySport Client Success Story: A Phenomenal Finale Puts More Than 1000 lbs In The Past

By Andrea Dutcher

Healthy Holiday Challenge results are in!

BaySport recently managed another remarkably successful Healthy Holiday Challenge for one of its local clients. This particular client has seven offices across North America, all of which participated in the program, creating some friendly competition among the sites while promoting good health.

Employees from all North American sites teamed up, stepped onto our super-sized scales together and recorded their pre-holiday team weight totals. More than 350 participants on nearly 100 teams challenged themselves to have a healthy holiday season and to maintain their total team weight. With catchy team names like Gutbusters, Flab-U-Less and NObesity, teams kept the challenge fun, yet approached it with determination.

After weeks of practicing healthy habits despite the many treats and temptations that come with the holidays, participants of the 2011 – 2012 Healthy Holiday Challenge put their efforts to the test as the program came to a close mid-January. Teams arrived in excitement to weigh-out and record their post-holiday team weight totals, many leaving satisfied after discovering they successfully met the challenge and maintained their weight. Multiple teams even shed weight, demonstrating that the holiday season doesn’t have to damage one’s health.

Highlights include:

  • A total of 353 employees participated (14% of all North American employees)
  • Combined, participants lost a total of 1113.7 lbs (2% of original weight lost)
  • 82 (94%) teams successfully maintained or lost weight

Triumphant teams share strategies to their success

Team: “East Coast Motivators” (Branford, CT)

In Branford, the “East Coast Motivators” not only maintained throughout the holidays, but actually lost 3% of their total team weight by the end of the challenge. “Our team was able to lose and not gain weight by exercising at a close-by gym, utilizing the mild winter weather for outdoor activities such as hiking and biking, and refraining from over-indulging on holiday sweets,” said team spokesman. The “East Coast Motivators” were jumping with joy at their victory – and so are we!

Team: “Hot Mamas” (Palo Alto, CA)

The “Hot Mamas” of Palo Alto tackled the health threats of the holidays with heart. “We all focussed on family during the holidays and made exercising with our kids part of our routine. Hopefully we are setting a good example for the next generation,” said a team member. The team turned the stress of the season into a 3.25% loss of total team weight, finishing the Healthy Holiday Challenge with flying colors. Congratulations!

Team: “Happy Feet” (Edmonton, CN)

Four running enthusiasts in Edmonton teamed up as “Happy Feet” and lost 5.96% of their team weight total during the challenge. “I went on a 12 week strength training program and modified my diet slightly,” said team spokesman. Plus, the team’s three ladies “were training hard and watching their diet for the Las Vegas Half-Marathon in December,” he added. “Happy Feet” set an excellent example, proving that it is possible to successfully set goals and stay active despite cold weather conditions, which Edmonton is no stranger to in the winter months. Bravo!

 Team: “No Seconds” (Seattle, WA)

In Seattle, “the Healthy Holiday Challenge rallied together our group in true Team (Company) Spirit,” says team spokesman. “Seeing change for the better across our team was both fun and rewarding. During the challenge we stayed true to our motto and namesake of ‘No Seconds’,” he added, explaining the strategy to their success. The team’s weigh-out revealed a 3.27% loss in total team weight and an inspirational answer to the question “what’s in a name?” Nicely done!

Team: “Santa’s Little Helpings” (Edmonton, CN)

Edmonton’s “Santa’s Little Helpings” enjoyed the experience of the Healthy Holiday Challenge and stayed true to their name using portion control and regular exercise. Even with the addition of a fifth surprise member to the team (a baby on the way), the team lost 5.70% of their team weight total. “The team came out with a win/win. We managed to lose some weight overall while also keeping our expecting team member healthy,” says team spokesman. Awesome job!

Team: “No Muffin Tops Here” (Foster City, CA)

Four Foster City colleagues came together with a cause and clever team name “No Muffin Tops Here.” Together, they triumphantly maintained and even lost 1.1% of their team weight total throughout the holidays. “ The on-site Health Challenge motivated all of us to work out more whether it was or at home,” said team spokesman, mentioning that “Watching how much we ate was key to our weight loss!”  Way to go!

Team: “Fab Four” (San Dimas, CA)

In Southern California, San Dimas’ team “Fab Four” found the Healthy Holiday Challenge  to be an excellent experience. Together, the team lost 1.96% of their team weight total. They attribute their success to “losing weight because we practiced our motto ‘If you can talk, you can walk’,” shares team spokesman. The team takes daily walks together during lunch, proving that having friends in fitness can be valuable motivation! Keep it up, “Fab Four!”
