Early Detection Saves Lives
Mammograms and monthly self-examinations increase the chances of survival of breast cancer by diagnosing the disease as early as possible. According to the American Cancer Society, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99% when breast cancer is detected early and is in the localized stage.
- Breast Self-examination (monthly) – Know the changes in your breasts, such as lumps, dimpling, and redness. If anything is worrying or seems different, make a note, and talk to your doctor.
- Mammograms (yearly) – Mammograms can detect small tumors up to three years before one feels them.
If you experience or feel anything abnormal, please make a clinical breast exam and physical with your doctor. For more information, visit https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-cancer-faqs/.
