Healthy eating doesn’t have to be expensive!

Many people think that eating healthy means breaking the bank! Organic, grass-fed, free-range, and all-natural, doesn’t have to cost a fortune. You can even save money by eating healthy! You just have to re-train your brain when shopping for groceries.

Here are a few tips:

• Stick to seasonal produce – check out your local farmer’s markets to get peak produce and not spend a fortune on things that aren’t in season.

• Buy generic – most stores carry the generic brand and it has the exact same ingredients.

• Practice meal planning – if you plan out ahead of time, you can avoid throwing away items in your refrigerator that may have spoiled.

• Cook at home – try cooking at home for the majority of your meals. The cost of dining out, with the additional fees, tips, and surcharges have gone up, especially this last year. Limit eating out for special occasions.

• Try plant-based proteins – these tend to cost less than animal proteins.

• Start an herb garden – fresh herbs are such a game changer! Growing your own gives you a sense of pride, accomplishment, and they taste amazing!

• Recreate leftovers – whether it’s from a restaurant or from home, try adding a spin to leftovers! Try adding the leftover protein to a salad or homemade soup.

• CSA or grocery delivery service – many CSA’s offer home delivery service, and are very flexible when it comes to budget and schedule. They may also offer cheaper produce because they are “imperfect” but taste the same.
