Kinesio Taping® and Physical Therapy: How It Impacts Treatment

Kinesio Taping® has become a gold standard in physical therapy taping and athletic taping. First popularized in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, this taping method was first developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase 30 years ago in Japan. It is a therapeutic taping method using a uniquely designed elastic tape; a modality that enhances the function of many different tissues and physiologic systems; and, a modality that can be applied and worn for extended periods with continued therapeutic benefit between clinical visits. It has been known to treat virtually anything such as AC joint pain, achilles tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome,  headaches, shin splint,  knee conditions, shoulder conditions, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, lymphedema reduction, and the list goes on.

Although the media has primarily associated Kinesio Taping® with popular athletes, 85% of its applications are for non athletes.  BaySport is just one of the many medical offices that use Kinesio Tape® on patients to assist with their pain management. Our physical therapists have seen great improvements in their patients rehabilitation through the use of Kinesio Taping®. One benefit is allowing muscular and joint support without restricting the bodies range of motion. This allows the patient to continue with their daily functions.

If you have questions regarding the application of Kinesio Tape® or would like to schedule a taping session, please contact a BaySport office nearest you.
