Protect your Lungs from Unhealthy Air

As the wildfires carry on destroying precious communities and vegetation, what is it doing to our lungs?

According to numerous studies, they have repeatedly shown that increased outdoor air levels of fine particulate matter correspond to hospitalizations for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary exacerbation, and other serious health problems.  Both long-term exposure and short-term seem to matter.

The American Lung Association has provided these simple, yet effective tips to protect you and your family from the dangers of air pollution.

  • Check daily air pollution forecasts in your area.
  • Avoid exercising outdoors when pollution levels are high.
  • Avoid exercising near high-traffic areas.
  • Use less energy in your home.
  • Encourage your child’s school to reduce exposure to school bus emissions.
  • Be thoughtful about transportation.
  • Don’t burn wood or trash.
  • Use hand-powered or electric lawn care equipment rather than gasoline-powered.
  • Get involved and promote clean, renewal energy!
