The Truth About Your Weight Gain Commentary

Some of us are realizing we are the fat in the fat sandwich after the holidays and have decided it’s time to make some changes. In David Zinczenko’s article, The Truth About Your Weight Gain, I fully agree with everything he suggests, however I would recommend spending the extra money for grass-fed/pastured sources of red meat, including hamburger, steaks and roast, or looking for red meat options that are typically always grass-fed such as buffalo, goat and lamb. In the Bay Area we can find grass-fed burgers at Sonoma Chicken Coop in Campbell, bison burgers at all Fuddruckers locations and occasionally at The Counter in Santana Row.

I would also recommend seeking out pastured pork products instead of conventionally raised pork. Since pigs have a fairly simple digestive tract, anything that goes in to them ends up in their meat. Unfortunately, here in the U.S., we feed the worst of the worst to our pigs and inject them with a myriad of hormones and antibiotics to increase growth and reduce infections from their poor living conditions so I would be very selective when choosing pork products and would minimize my intake of pork products that are not from organic, pastured sources. These products are VERY difficult to find, so please share any resources you come across.
