Tips to Stay Healthy This Holiday Season

Written by Linda Sweeney, PT

The holidays are upon us again. How do you shave off those pounds that always seem to accumulate?

Keep your exercise schedule as much as possible.

  1. Walk when you can. Park farther away so that you have to walk to and from the store/office/etc.
  2. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
  3. Take stretch breaks at work: sitting neck rotations, shoulder blade squeezes. Speak to a licensed BaySport physical therapist to learn more stretches.
  4. Add arm swings to your walk to help increase you calorie burn. Plan a “power walk” through the mall when doing your holiday shopping.
  5. Exercise when you can. Time can be scarce during the busy holiday season. Even a short period of exercise is better than none.
  6. Look for healthy choices when at a party – vegetables, fruit, and lower fat options.
  7. Keep alcohol consumption in moderation. Egg nog is high in calories.
