Doug Emery, MA

  • Doug Emery received his Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of California at Davis. Prior to founding BaySport with his partner and wife, Linda Emery, he was a physiologist for the United States Olympic Committee and United States Olympic Ski Team and developed the Executive Health program for O’Connor Hospital. He helped to establish BaySport’s reputation as a leader in the areas of corporate fitness, workplace wellness, onsite health screenings, and executive physical examination services. His responsibilities for the organization include the day-to-day operation of the firm, new business development, and corporate account management.

Linda Emery, MS

  • Linda Emery received her Bachelors Degree in Physiology from the University of California at Davis, and her Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology from Arizona State University. She was a physiologist for the United States Olympic Committee and a research physiologist for NASA Ames Research Center where she studied hydration status and exercise regiments during space travel. Linda has a strong interest in educating BaySport clients on the benefits of exercise and its positive influence on blood pressure, bone density, cardiovascular disease, and stress. Linda's business responsibilities include financial/information systems, account management, and patient care as scheduled. She values working with the truly wonderful health care professionals that have made BaySport the organization that it is today. Their dedication to improving the lives of others is unmatched.

Christine Eden, MS

  • A native to the Bay Area, Christine received her Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology from San Francisco State University and did her undergraduate studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. In graduate school, Christine's scope of study primarily focused on heart disease as it relates to lifestyle, predominantly exercise. Her thesis used the Framingham Risk Score to examine a local population of various ethnic groups to determine if some were statistically placed at a higher risk for developing heart disease. She really appreciates BaySport's dedication to detail in making every patient's experience as enjoyable as possible, while also educating them on ways to improve their lifestyle. During her off-time, Christine is an avid supporter and fan of Bay Area sports. She loves to spend time with her family and friends and plays golf whenever she can.

Brian Schonfeld, MS

  • Brian Schonfeld received his Masters Degree in Exercise Science from the University of California at Davis. Certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, Brian's areas of expertise include population health management, employee wellness program operation and management, occupational performance testing and sports training. Brian has been with BaySport since July, 1990.

Deanna Lyons

  • Deanna holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from San Jose State University and is a Certified Health and Wellbeing Coach (WellCoaches), Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM), and Certified Phlebotomist. She currently manages the Human Resources department and provides support across other areas. In her free time, Deanna enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, and camping with her family.

    Fun Fact: Deanna enjoys compound bow archery.

Leslie Czarny

  • Leslie Czarny is responsible for managing and directing communications for BaySport's three core divisions: Physical Therapy, Preventive Medicine and Corporate Health. She has 20 years experience in the clinical and corporate wellness environment specializing in customer service, marketing and communications technology. As a member of the NFCA Women's Softball program and having a special interest in sports performance, Leslie obtained a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology at Humboldt State University. She has continued her professional education through courses in business writing, marketing communications and web design.

    On a personal note. Leslie enjoys staying active with her husband and two children. She often attends Bay Area sporting events and volunteers as a youth softball coach.

Preventive Medicine Team

Jennifer Laity, MS

  • Jennifer received her Master's degree in Exercise Physiology and Gerontology Certificate from the University of Georgia and her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Hayward (East Bay). She is an ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Wellcoaches Certified Health and Wellness Coach, and Certified Personal Trainer. Besides working for BaySport, Jennifer has worked as an exercise physiologist at Duke University's Center for Living and was a graduate assistant in the Cardiac Rehab and Adult Fitness program at the University of Georgia. In her 25+ years with BaySport, Jennifer has been providing wellness programming, health coaching, fitness center management, personal training, group exercise class instruction, biometric screenings, and clinical testing for executive and occupational wellness exams. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, snuggling with her kitties, serving with her church, and enjoying the great outdoors.

Michaela Shoberg, MS

  • Michaela is a graduate from the Master's program in Exercise Physiology at San Francisco State University. She graduated suma cum laude and received the Distinguished Academic Achievement award for her thesis work on cycling economy. While at San Francisco State University, she taught undergraduate physical activity courses including aerobics and strength training and assisted with undergraduate research projects. Michaela is classically trained in ballet and other dance forms and has spent many years as a professional dancer.

Marc Miranda

  • Marc is a Bay Area native who grew up in Oakley, a small town in the East Bay.

    Marc received his master’s degree in exercise science from William Jessup University and his undergraduate degree in exercise science from San Francisco State University. He is also a certified personal trainer from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Marc has also worked as a physical therapy assistant for seniors with chronic conditions. He has developed exercise programs for a wide population ranging from teenagers to seniors. In his free time, Marc has a passion for playing basketball, lifting weights, running, swimming, and cycling. He also loves to travel the world and spend time with his family and friends. 

Grace Rogers

  • Grace Rogers received her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Grove City College and her master's degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in strength and conditioning from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She previously worked for Apple as a clinical research scientist on the Apple Watch product development team and at Sutter Health performing outpatient cardiac testing including stress echocardiograms and nuclear stress testing. She is currently working in preventive medicine and encouraging patients to create healthy habits that will improve their metabolic health and quality of life. In her free time, she enjoys weightlifting, listening to health and fitness podcasts, and spending time with her family.

Cory Preston

  • Born and raised in the Bay Area, Cory grew up in the East Bay in Fremont. Following in her father’s footsteps, Cory attended California State University, Fresno, and received both her master’s degree and undergraduate degree in Exercise Science. Go Bulldogs! During her graduate program at Fresno State, Cory worked as the Human Performance Lab coordinator and assisted with the City of Fresno Fire and Police annual fitness testing. Before joining the BaySport team, Cory held a variety of health and wellness roles, including group and personal training for a small fitness center, ER Tech for Regional Medical Center, and most recently, a Firefighter/EMT for the San Francisco Fire Department, which included 5 years on line and 2 years working as the Medical Leave Coordinator for the SFFD Employee Health Office. Cory retired from the SFFD to be able to spend more time with Eleanor, her three-year-old daughter that she has with her husband John, who has 13 years of service with the Palo Alto Fire Department. In 2020, Cory and John founded 22 and You Productions, which most recently sponsored a 704-mile hike from Parris Island, SC, to Cincinnati, OH, where they walked together to raise awareness about First Responder and Veteran mental health.

Giovanna Gomez

  • Giovanna received her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise and Movement Science from San Francisco State University. She grew her love for movement and being active from a young age which has continued onto her adult years. She has been with BaySport for 6 years where she has worked as a PT aide, a fitness specialist for their corporate fitness Gilead site and now at the corporate office supporting the exercise physiologists. In her free time, Giovanna likes to exercise, visit new coffee shops and spend time with friends and family.

Physical Therapy Team

Michael Marcello

  • Michael Marcello earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at San Jose State University and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. Michael is experi- enced in sports medicine, orthopedics, and concussion exertional physical therapy. Michael appre- ciates and utilizes current evidence-based treatment/interventions, continuing education courses and exercise to promote optimal function and performance. Michael, a Bay Area native, enjoys exercising, watching sports and spending time with his family and friends. Michael is a 49ers, Giants, Warriors and Sharks fan as well.

Jamie Clausen

  • Originally from San Jose, California, Jamie graduated from Archbishop Mitty High School, where she played one year of soccer before needing three ankle surgeries. This kick started her love and passion for physical therapy. She graduated from Samuel Merritt University with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2012. Jamie has a special love of baking, the outdoors, spending time with her husband and son, and cheering for all the local teams - Sharks, Warriors, and Earthquakes. She has primarily worked in an outpatient orthopedic setting serving a diverse population - post-op, gait/balance deficits, weekend warriors, and general orthopedic pain/limitations. She uses a combination of manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and education to work with each patient to achieve their goals. Jamie is trained in myofascial decompression and kinesiotaping which she can incorporate into her treatments.

Rupa Chakravarty

  • Rupa has been a Physical Therapist for almost 30 years. She earned her doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from Des Moines University, Iowa. She graduated with distinction during her doctoral program and her project work has been included as part of the course curriculum for students. Prior to receiving her doctorate in the US, Rupa had graduated with Physical Therapy from Bombay University, India and was a practicing clinician in a reputed hospital and as well as her own practice in India. Rupa is also a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist, Performance Enhanced sports specialist and a certified Clinical Instructor. She has 3 research papers to her credit. She had the privilege to work in multiple settings during her three decades of Physical Therapy. Rupa has worked extensively with varying medical conditions which have honed her diagnostic skills. She employs a wide array of manual as well as exercise techniques to manage her patients’ treatments during their course of therapy.

Alice Nikzat

  • Alice earned her B.S. in Business Administration and Management at Touro University and is a licensed Phlebotomist and certified Medical Assistant. Alice joined the BaySport family in 2010, She has over 15 years’ experience in the Health Care Systems field and is bilingual in English and Farsi. In her spare time, Alice enjoys reading, movies, and spending time with family and friends.

Elizabeth Diaz

  • Elizabeth joined the BaySport family in 2004 and is located in our Redwood City office. As the office manager, she strives to provide each patient and client with the best experience from their initial contact to their last visit. Elizabeth enjoys working in a caring and supportive environment while assisting patients with their health goals. It comes natural to her after having many years experience working in the medical community. She was raised in San Francisco and eagerly made the move to the Peninsula with her husband. She enjoys the outdoors, movies, and spending time with friends and family.
