Don’t Let the Holiday Rush Get to Your Head!

Tension headaches are the most common type of headache affecting millions of people.  Tension-type headaches occur randomly and are often the result of stress, anxiety, depression, anger, allergies, and poor posture.  The pain tends to be a tightness and dull ache around the forehead, temples, and back of the head.  Pain can start in the neck or upper back and work its way around to the front of the head.  Side effects can be lightheadedness, dizziness, and sore muscles throughout the neck and back.

The key to relieving any headache is to identify your triggers so you can prevent the pain.  Here are some ways that can help alleviate your headache:

  • Get a posture assessment at BaySport Physical Therapy.
  • Stretch and perform myofascial release/soft tissue mobilizations.
  • Practice relaxation and breathing techniques.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Get nutritional guidance.
  • Get a headset for your phone.
  • Sleep with proper support at the curve of your neck.
  • Sit upright without leaning your head forward when reading, driving, or working on the computer.
