Combatting Allergy Season

Allergy season is upon us and is getting stronger and longer each year, affecting more than 50 million Americans. As the weather gets warmer and drier, trees, grasses, and weeds release tiny grains into the air to help fertilize other plants, and as we breathe them in, people prone to allergies will suffer. Allergy symptoms range from person to person but typically include sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, headaches, fatigue, congestion, and coughing.

Here are helpful tips to help allergy suffers reduce their symptoms and exposure to the increased pollen in the air:

1 – Keep house and car windows closed and use your air conditioning.

2 – Plan your outdoor activities to avoid high pollen counts (midday and afternoons – daily pollen counts can be found on most weather apps or by doing a quick Google Search).

3 – Wear a pollen or dust mask when pollen counts are high or while doing outdoor activities (like mowing the lawn or weeding).

4 – Shower, change clothes, and rinse eyes with cool water or saline eyedrops to remove clinging pollen after outdoor activities.
