Forward head, flatback, kyphosis—there are many different types of posture. But the healthiest form is when your spine is aligned with your head and limbs. Proper spinal alignment means that your muscles and bones are balanced, which ultimately protects your body against injury.

Discomfort aside, having a “bad” posture can cause a bunch of side effects that can significantly impact your daily life. For example, forward head posture (aka tech neck) can lead to debilitating headaches and decreased respiratory function, hindering your productivity. If you have a swayback posture, you might experience chronic back pain, mobility issues, and an increased risk of musculoskeletal injuries, affecting your quality of life.

Becoming aware of how we sit, stand, and lie down is the first step. From there, it’s a matter of practicing “little” lifestyle habits that add up to big change. Here are some adjustments you can make to help improve your posture and protect your health:

  • Try not to sleep on your stomach, which can force your neck to twist.
